I met up with Emily's friends at The Horse and Groom pub in Merrow. Sadly, John and Mike are her only high school friends still alive in Guildford.

Another outdoor picnic, this time in S&A's backyard. We met Dave, an American-Irish whom S&A met in Laos eight years ago. S&A were on a year-long trip through China, India, and SE Asia at the time while Dave was on a two-year trip around the world. Amazingly, Dave has been living and working abroad since that trip.

We spent the weekend with Simon and Annabel, whom we first met last fall in Lhasa, Tibet during our overland trip to Mt. Evererst and Kathmandu. We ended up spending a few days in Kathamandu together before heading off to hike around Annapurna, where we coincidentally met up again heading in the opposite directions, and spent another week together in Kathamandu and Chitwan National Park. We didn't see each other again until February when we were both passing through Bangkok; they had just returned from Cambodia were headed to Myanmar and we had just returned from Taiwan and were headed to Sukhothai.
We had always said that we should meet up again when I reached England, so that's what we did.

Guildford's high street is nice and cobblestoned. Surprisingly, Guildford is more expensive than London.
Interestingly, Guildford has a cathedral which was used in the movie "The Omen". And in the book "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", Ford Prefect claims to be from Guildford.

Emily's parents took me out for a traditional pub dinner in Clandon, not far from Guildford. The term "pub" refers to "public house" which referred to social places that center around the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages.
