I guess the Chinese couldn't resist but put a fascist square opposite the Potala Palace. It's interesting how the pilgrams prostate themselves in front of Potala, by turning their backs to the Chinese flag and this square.

This is the classic postcard shot from across the street. It costs only 2 RMB to climb the steps to take this photo, which makes it a better deal than the 100 RMB entrance fee to Potala.
I am headed to the Nepalese border tomorrow via Everest Base Camp (5200 m). It's a five-day trip in a land cruiser with four other folks. I've been in Lhasa for over a week now, getting acclimated, so I think I will be good to go. I've still got my oxygen canister from the trip here anyways. From the border, I will bus it to Kat-kat-kat-kathmandu...
